Renewable energy analysis

The growth of renewable energy has an impact on the entire energy chain and sets new requirements to the electrical grid. For example, in the electricity market, price fluctuation will likely increase with increasing levels of wind energy. This also changes the business case for traditional power plants. Another example is that electricity grids need to be adapted: at low voltage levels as a result of the increase of solar feed-in; at medium voltage levels as a result of on-shore wind growth and at high voltage levels, as a result of the emergence of large-scale wind power from the North Sea.
The current generation of wind turbines and PV inverters are optimized for maximum power feed-in and much less on supportive ancillary services. Ongoing research on grid integration of renewable sources focuses on existing technology and not on its improvement as a mature power plant.
Key interest for customers is a reliable and cost-efficient integration of renewable energy into the grid.
